René Jacobs studied singing in Brussels and The Hague as well as philology in Gent. Since 1982 he is devoted to the compiling as well as the conducting of baroque operas, especially the works of Monteverdi, Cavalli and Cesti. From 1991 to 2009 he was artistic director of Festwochen der alten Musik Innsbruck and conducts since 1992 at Staatsoper unter den Linden as well as since 1993 at Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie. Numerous Recordings and Awards keep records of his producing, inter alii the Cannes Classical Award for Handel’s Rinaldo, the Grammy Award for Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis for his lifework. 2009 Telemann’s Brockespassion, Mozart’s Idomeneo (Annual price of Deutschen Schallplattenkritik 2009) and Haydn’s Die Schöpfung got released. Forthcoming projects include a.o. Conti’s Don Chisciotte and Rameau’s Plateé in Amsterdam as well as Agrippina in Berlin. At Theater an der Wien he conducted several times, for example Cavalli’s La Calisto, Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, 2009 Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Rossinis Tancredi.
