Kasper Holten


Bech-Holten, KasperThe 1973 at Copenhagen born Dane studied Comparative Literature and Theatre Research in his home town. From 1996-1999 he was artistic director of Aarhus Sommeropera Festival, Dramatic Advisor at Aalborg Teater and member of the Danish Music Council from 1995 to 1999. He worked as an assistant of directors such as David Pountney or Harry Kupfer to name a few. Nowadays he teaches at National Theatre Academy, Royal Danish Opera Academy and at the Danish Design School. At the moment he is artistic director of Royal Danish Opera.
Awards include for example the Reumert Award 1999, 2000 and 2001 for Shakespeare’s Hamlet at Aalborg Theatre as well as awards of the Danish Wagner Society, The Danish Arts Council and Prince Henrik Foundation. In 2008/2009 he created a new production of Euripides’ Iphigenie in Aulis at Copenhagen. At Theater an der Wien he directed Menotti’s Goya and at last Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro.
