Michael Levine
Set design
Michael Levine studied at Central School of Art and Design at London and works international as set- and costume designer for theatre, opera, dance and film. He directed and designed Wagner’s Das Rheingold for Canadian Opera. Actual works create amongst others Bizet’s Carmen for De Nederlandse Opera with Robert Carsen, which whom he works very often, Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer for Royal Opera House Covent Garden and The Showgirl must go on at Las Vegas. He created inter alii Dvořák’s Rusalka at Paris, Tschaikowski’s Eugen Onegin at the MET, Verdi’s Jérusalem at Wiener Staatsoper, Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi at Genua and Paris as well as Wagner’s Ring in Canada. Future plans include for example Raskatov’s A Dog’s Heart at Amsterdam, Wagner’s Tannhäuser at London and Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at Budapest. His last works at Theater an der Wien were Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea and Handels Semele in 2010.
