The Soprano Petra Simková was born in Prague and graduated her singing studies with Claudia Visca and Edith Mathis in Vienna. She is winner of many international singing competitions and got invited to sing the role of Marie (Smetana: The bartered bride) at the National Theatre in her hometown at the State Opera and the role of Violetta (Verdi: La Traviata). She furthermore has performed with Neue Oper Wien, in Krakow and in Aix-en-Provence. In the Czech Republic she actually sings in various theatres roles such as Gilda (Rigoletto), Mimì (Puccini: La bohème), Nedda (Leoncavallo: I Pagliacci), Franziska Cagliari (Strauß: Wiener Blut) and Marie (The bartered bride). For her interpretation of the role of Marie she got acclaimed by the critics to be the „most ideal Czech interpreter of our days”. She got nominated for the prestigious Czech Thalia Award, which will be given in March 2010. At Theater an der Wien she made her debut in Menotti’s Goya during studying and enjoys returning to this House.
