Concerto Italiano

Concerto Italiano’s revelatory interpretations have revolutionized our perception of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Italian music, establishing it with critics and audiences as the finest ensemble of its kind in Italy today. Moving on from the madrigal repertoire, in addition to its vibrant performances and recordings of familiar Baroque masterpieces, Rinaldo Alessandrini’s ensemble has also reclaimed for modern audiences works that have languished in obscurity for centuries. The ensemble’s current schedule features sacred music by Handel, Scarlatti, Legrenzi, Vivaldi, Melani, Pergolesi and Stradella; instrumental works by Bach, Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Locatelli, and Rossini; and secular vocal music by Monteverdi, Marenzio, De Wert, Charpentier, Nenna, and De Monte.

The group’s most recent large-scale productions were the Monteverdi Vespers, Bachs Brandenburgische Konzerte, Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (new staging in Salamanca), his complete sixth and eighth books of madrigals in France, Spain and Italy, and a year-long tour of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo in Italy, Belgium and Spain. Concerto Italiano records exclusively for Naïve. The impressive array of critical awards received for these recordings confirms the outstanding performance quality of a group now recognised as a unique force in the interpretation of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music. The ensemble performed at last at Theater an der Wien Vivaldis Armida al Campo d’Egitto.
