The native Italian, Swiss-Argentine countertenor was born in Buenos Aires graduated with honors from the Conservatoire de Fribourg, Conservatoire de Neuchâtel as well as at the prestigious Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, in Switzerland.
Highly appreciated for his powerful contralto voice, Martín Oro easily takes all kinds of roles. His repertoire ranges from Baroque to Britten and to contemporary music. He has performed in all the important music centres in Europe inter alii with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Philippe Herreweghe, Christophe Rousset, René Jacobs, Jordi Savall, Helmuth Rilling and W.Kuijken.
His roles include amongst others Anfinomo (Monteverdi: Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria) at Opernhaus Zürich, Arnalta (Monteverdi: L’incoronazione di Poppea) at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Grifone (Vivaldi: Orlando finto pazzo) at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Fernando (Conti: Don Chisciotte della Mancia) at Liceu de Salamanca, Oberon (Britten: A Midsummer night’s Dream) at the Opéra de Fribourg Orfeo (Gluck: Orfeo ed Euridice) at Teatro Guaira. Especially Handels Oeuvre is outstanding: u.a. as Dardano ( Amadigi di Gaula) in Rome, Daniel (Belshazzar) in Gent, Dydimus (Theodora) at Théâtre de Nîmes and Joad (Athalia) in Köln. 2005 he sang under the baton of Marc Minkowski Tolomeo in Handels Giulio Cesare in Zürich beside Cecilia Bartoli as Cleopatra.
