Soprano
The Soprano was born at Bratislava, where she studied singing as well as later with Ruthilde Boesch at Vienna. Her international career started at Wiener Staatsoper as Zerbinetta (Strauss: Ariadne auf Naxos) under Böhm. She rapidly became one of the most thought after sopranos for roles such as Zerbinetta, Mozart’s Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Verdi’s Gilda (Rigoletto), Violetta (La Traviata) and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.
These roles she sang at the international important Opera Houses, for example at Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Metropolitan Opera and Grand Opéra Paris. Edita Gruberova is international acclaimed for both – Opera as well as concert-performances. Selden Belcanto-works get produced for her inter alii Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, Bellini’s I puritani at Vienna, La sonnambula at Genova, I Capuleti e i Montecchi at London, I puritani at Bregenzer Festspiele, Anna Bolena and Beatrice di Tenda at Barcelona, La fille du régiment, Linda di Chamounix and Beatrice di Tenda at Zurich, at last for example Roberto Devereux and Lucrezia Borgia at Bayerische Staatsoper. In 2003 she made her debut at Tokyo, in 2004 in Europe and in 2006 at Munich as. In 2007/08 her debut as Lucrezia Borgia followed at Barcelona. Edita Gruberova is a permanent guest of Opernfestspiele at Munich and Salzburg. She has appeared in Opera – films such as Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel until Mozart’s Così fan tutte and is very good represented on numerous recordings, at last on a CD-recording and a DVD of Norma.
Edita Gruberova is Austrian and Bavarian Kammersängerin, member of Honours of Wiener Staatsoper and got decorated amongst others with Franco-Abbiati-Price in Italy, Sir Lawrence Olivier-Award, Bellini d’oro and Verdienstorden der Republik Österreich. At Theater an der Wien she sang at last in 1981 Giunia in Mozart’s Lucio Silla under Harnoncourt at Theater an der Wien.
