On the Tuesday of Easter Week 1718, 12th April, the oratorio Cristo nell’ orto (Christ in the Garden) by the Austrian composer and court music director Johann Joseph Fux was heard for the first time in the chapel of the Hofburg in Vienna. Now, 292 years later, the Vienna Bach Consort performs the work in the Minoritenkirche, conducted by Rubén Dubrovsky. This ensemble represents a new generation of virtuoso baroque musicians who have developed a musical idiom all their own by continually exploring the work of Bach and his contemporaries.
