Dietrich Henschel’ s international career started with Henze’s Der Prinz von Homburg in Berlin and Busoni’s Dr. Faust in Lyon. He sang roles such as Pelleas (Debussy: Pelléas et Mélisande) in Paris, Wolfram (Wagner: Tannhäuser) in Berlin and Genéve, Berg’s Wozzek for example in Berlin, Lisabon and Bruxelles. He furthermore performed as a guest in a wide-ranging repertoire in Amsterdam, Madrid, Zurich, Salzburg and Munich for example with conductors such as Kent Nagano, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly and Colin Davis. His recordings include beside many oratorios and lied-CDs Mahler’s and Wolf’s Orchesterlieder as well as Busoni’s Dr. Faust. For this recording he received a Grammy Award. Recently he sang Beckmesser (Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) in Leipzig and Nick Shadow (Strawinski: The Rake’s progress) in Bruxelles. His future plans include role debuts as Dr. Schön (Berg: Lulu) and Enescu’s Oedipe. At Theater an der Wien he performed at last Buonafede (Haydn: Il mondo della luna).
