Born in Salzburg, Angelika Kirchschlager studied at the Mozarteum and at the Vienna Music Academy. She enjoys an international career as one of the most important artists of today, dividing her time between recitals and opera in Europe, North America and the Far East. In Opera she has been acclaimed at the Vienna State Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Bavarian State Opera and the Theatre des Champs Elysees. In concert she appears with the Bayerische Staatsoper and Jansons and Berlin Philharmonic and Rattle. She appears in recital throughout Europe and North America. She has a wide discography for her label Sony Masterworks. In 2007 she was made a Kammersängerin of the Vienna State Opera and in 2009 was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, London. At Theater an der Wien she has performed many times, for example the role of Idamante (Mozart: Idomeneo, Re di Creta), Recitals and in the Silvester-Gala 2008.
