Carsen, RobertThe Canadian directed internationally inter alii Mozart’s Mitridate, rè di Ponto (Brüssel, Wien), Le nozze di Figaro (Bordeaux), Wagner’s Tannhäuser and Ring (Köln, Venedig), Lully’s Armide (Paris), Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride (San Francisco, London), Orfeo ed Euridice (Chicago), Verdi’s Il trovatore (Bregenzer Festspiele), La traviata (Venedig), Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier (Salzburger Festspiele), Ariadne auf Naxos (München), Salome (Turin), Elektra (Tokio, Florenz), Tschaikowski’s Eugen Onegin (MET), Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor (Zurich, Munich), Bizet’s Carmen at Kopenhagen, Puccini’s Tosca and Handel’s Semele at Zurich. He got awarded amongst others with Premio Abbiati, Prix de la Critique and is Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. Future plans include for example Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, Janacek’s Katja Kabanova at Teatro alla Scala as well as Verdi’s La Traviata and Wagner’s Götterdämmerung at Gran Teatro la Fenice. At Theater an der Wien he directed several times, for example Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites, a production which could also be seen at Milan, Madrid and Amsterdam or at last Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, on which he will work again at Glyndebourne.
