Cast Change in GOGOL
Due to a long-term illness, a few days ago Bo Skovhus had to cancel his performance in the world premiere of Lera Auerbach’s “Gogol”. The difficult part and the limited time to prepare prompted director Christine Mielitz to split the role in two. “We are happy to have found two specialists for contemporary music,” says manager Roland Geyer. Austrian baritone Martin Winkler and German bass-baritone Otto Katzameier will perform this highly demanding part.
Lera Auerbach presents moments of inner conflict and despair of the great Russian poet in her new opera “Gogol”. With this commission, the Theater an der Wien continues a series of world premieres, which climaxed in recent years in Johannes Kalitzke’s “The Possessed” and Daniel Catáns “Il postino”.
Conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev is on the rostrum of the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien. Well-known director Christine Mielitz heads the production. In addition to the Arnold Schoenberg Chor, the Grazer Kapellknaben, and the Mozart Knabenchor Wien, soloists Ladislav Elgr (Bes), Natalya Ushakova (Poshulst/Witch), Stella Grigorian (Death) and others will perform.
