Premiere of "Briefe von Ruth"

Briefe von Ruth, a powerful, indispensable piece of musical theatre, celebrated its premiere at the Kammeroper on 24 February - a chamber musical about the life and death of Ruth Maier, a Viennese girl full of longings and dreams.

The Norwegian composer Gisle Kverndokk, together with librettist Aksel-Otto Bull, created a monument to this unusual woman that captures Ruth's irrepressible hunger for life as well as her tragic fate. Following its successful premiere in 2023, Briefe von Ruth was immediately awarded four prizes at the German Musical Theatre Awards.

Philipp Moschitz is responsible for the new staging of Briefe von Ruth at the Kammeroper. Emily Mrosek as Ruth Maier is joined by Maaike Schuurmans, Dorothea Maria Müller, Alen Hodzovic, Reinwald Kranner and students from the CAMPUS cooperation with the Performing Center Austria (Anna Fleischhacker, Christoph Ruda) and the Theatre Academy August Everding Munich (Julia Bergen) to form an ensemble, which is musically directed by Herbert Pichler, accompanied by the orchestra of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien. The audience thanked everyone involved with long-lasting applause.

Briefe von Ruth can be seen at the Kammeroper until 16 March.
