Premiere of "L'Occasione fa il ladro"

Season openening at the Kammeroper. On 23 September, Rossini’s one-act opera L'Occasione fa il ladro premiered at the Kammeroper.

This one-act opera from 1812 already showcases Rossini’s mastery: fast-paced ensemble scenes, soulful arias and humorous instrumental effects take the double mistaken identity to the extreme.

Rossini's mastery is already evident in this one-act opera from 1812: fast-paced ensemble scenes, soulful arias and humorous instrumental effects drive the double mix-up to its climax, which ultimately resolves itself in a cheerful happy ending. Behind the light-heartedness of the plot, however, lie questions of identity, social role-playing and the search for oneself.

The production is part of the CAMPUS programme, which is realised in collaboration with the University of Music and Show Arts Vienna and the Mozarteum University Salzburg. Three singers from CAMPUS, Petra Radulovic, Ilyà Dovnar and Lazar Parežanin, performed in the ensemble in L'Occasione fa il ladro.

Marcos Darbyshire staged Rossini's operatic gem with a keen sense of humour, while Pedro Beriso conducted the Wiener KammerOrchester. The audience gave an enthusiastic round of applause to the entire ensemble: Inna Demenkova, Alberto Robert, Roberto Lorenzi, Petra Radulovic, Ilyà Dovnar and Lazar Parežanin.

L'occasione fa il ladro can be seen at the Kammeroper until 14 October.
