Start of rehearsals for "L'Orontea"

Rehearsals for Antonio Cesti’s Baroque opera L’Orontea began today at the Kammeroper.

Under the musical direction of Wolfgang Katschner and the lautten compagney BERLIN, and staged by Tomo Sugao, a new production of this rarely performed work is taking shape and ready to transport audiences into the musical world of the 17th century this December.

Julia Katharina Berndt is responsible for set and costume design, with Karl Wiedemann designing the lighting and Kai Weßler serving as dramaturge.

The cast features Hilary Cronin as Orontea, Gabriel Díaz as Alidoro, and Alexander Strömer as Gelone/Creonte. Further roles are performed by Stephen Chaundy (Aristea), Maria Ladurner (Silandra), Therese Troyer (Giacinta), and Johannes Wieners (Corindo). The role of Tibrino is performed by Manhan Qi, who appears as part of the CAMPUS programme in cooperation with the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin.

The premiere of L’Orontea will take place on 2 December at 7 pm at the Kammeroper.

Audiences can get an early insight into the work during the introductory matinée on 16 November at 11 am.
