Second premiere at the Kammeroper

On 3 December, the second premiere of the season took place at the Kammeroper: L'arbore di Diana by Vicente Martín y Solers. This opera evening was again part of our campus project! Lorenzo Da Ponte wrote the libretto, which not coincidentally was written at the same time as Mozart's Don Giovanni. As if in a burning mirror, Da Ponte and Martín y Soler bundle youthful infatuation and blossoming sexuality, which are opposed by the morally strict goddess Diana - until Amore himself shoots his arrows at her.

Spanish director Rafael Villalobos translates this sparkling musical comedy about a pair of young lovers on the cusp of adulthood and offers an exciting and refreshing interpretation of the almost high school-like story.

The musical direction is in the hands of Rubén Dubrovsky, whose Bach Consort Wien has been one of the special ensembles for early music for many years. Argentine soprano Verónica Cangemi shone in the title role, while young countertenor Maayan Licht sang Amore.

The entire ensemble received much applause on this exciting evening of musical theatre! L'arbore di Diana can be seen at the Kammeroper until the end of the year and is also a hot tip for New Year's Eve.
