Holle!

Sebastian Schwab

Climate change opera based on ideas from Grimms’ fairy tale Frau Holle
Libretto by Kai Weßler and Suse Pfister
For young & all aged 6 and above
Austrian premiere

It never rains but it pours! Frau Holle really doesn’t have an easy time of it. After all, the job of looking after the seasons and the climate is all down to her. She’s always on the go, shaking out the bedclothes to make it snow for example, but somehow she just never manages to please everybody. Some find it too hot, others say it rains too much. And now she’s even getting letters of complaint! Eventually, Frau Holle has had enough. She decides it’s time for a break. After all, the weather is not something you can pick and choose! Let the two weather assistants, Gold-Andy and Pitch-Andy, take over making the weather. But that proves disastrous...
Holle! is an entertaining story about climate change that encourages young & all to think about what we can all do to protect the climate. Sebastian Schwab’s children’s opera for one singer and two musicians who also act imaginatively conjures up every kind of weather: from jubilant major-key sunshine to Frau Holle’s furious hailstorm arias.
