KNOW THE WAYS!
Who was Hildegard von Bingen? Liber scivias, ‘Wisse die Wege (Know the ways)’, was the title of her first book, published around 1150. She worked as an abbess, poet and composer, among other things, and was regarded by her contemporaries as a universal scholar of nature and medicine. Asya Fateyeva, Wolfgang Katschner and Peter A. Bauer take an excursion into the world of medieval music and mysticism, focussing on Hildegard's work. Saxophone, lute and percussion create a connection to the intellectual space of the 12th century. On this evening, a mysterious time capsule will be opened to provide inspiration for our present day. You will hear works from Hildegard von Bingen's ‘Symphonies of the Harmony of Heavenly Apparitions’, from the medieval music collection ‘Cantigas de Santa Maria’ and music by Meredith Monk and Philip Glass.
