Early Music Heroines

EARLY MUSIC CROSSOVER WITH WORKS BY BARBARA STROZZI, BRITNEY SPEARS AND MANY OTHERS

If you’re reading these lines it probably means you love classical music. And if you’re a regular visitor at the MusikTheater an der Wien, chances are you have a particular fondness for “early music”. But what actually is “Early music” if we use the capital E? Why aren’t Mozart or Verdi or Haydn considered “Early”, especially since the Beatles are regarded as “oldies” and last summer’s chart-topper has already been forgotten? When is a work old enough to be called “Early”? The Early Music Heroines led by soprano Johanna Rosa Falkinger tackle these questions with gusto, humour and great historical expertise and will present the heroes and heroines of Early music on the stage of the Hölle in an entirely new guise. You’ll find out whether, say, Britney Spears is already old enough for Early music and why Early music is a wholesome drug in difficult times. Not to be missed!
