Gold!

Leonard Evers

Musical theatre after the fairy tale The Fisherman and His Wife

Libretto by Flora Verbrugge

For young & all aged 6 and above

Imagine a family so poor they had to dig a hole in the earth to sleep in! But that’s what Jacob and his parents have to do. But one day something miraculous happens: Jacob catches a talking fish. Wanting to return to the sea, it makes him a tempting offer. It says to Jacob, “Throw me back and let me live, and what you wish, to you I’ll give!” Jacob is so flabbergasted that he doesn’t make a wish. His parents, on the other hand, have an idea. They could use this magic fish to end their terrible poverty! Soon the family is living in the lap of luxury, but in the end they all have to pay a price for their constant wishes. Gold! is a modern fairy tale about what really counts in life. Leonard Evers tells the spellbinding story, which is based on an old tale, using only a singer and a drummer. One of the biggest successes in opera for children and young people of the past fifteen years now comes to Vienna for the first time.
