AN EVENING WITH WORKS BY LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN, JOSEPH HAYDN AND FRANZ SCHUBERT
Vienna, May 1826: In an inn, Ludwig van Beethoven awaits the first performance of his “Grand Fugue”, op. 130. His young colleague Franz Schubert is among the audience for this pioneering work – and is so overwhelmed that he is incapable of composing for months afterwards. This near-meeting of the two composers is the starting point of the musical programme Große und kleine Fuge with Angelo Konzett. The puppeteer and actor, who has made frequent guest appearances at the MusikTheater an der Wien in recent years, brings Beethoven and Schubert back to life as puppets, with the older Joseph Haydn as a ghostly guest. Pianist Mennan Bërveniku provides all three composers with a musical voice. A humorous evening with hidden depths about three composers who made history in Vienna.
