First impressions of Isacco

Marianna Martines was regarded as a musical prodigy of her time. Her mentors included none other than Joseph Haydn and Nicola Porpora. Nevertheless, the talented and successful composer was soon forgotten and her once glorious name became a marginal note in the music world. To this day, performances of her works are a rarity. From 5 June, her oratorio Isacco figura del redentore, which premiered in 1782, will now take to the stage of the Chamber Opera. Eva-Maria Höckmayr directs the Old Testament story of the father who, like Mozart's Idomeneo, is prepared to sacrifice his own son. Christian Sens, Dennis Orellana, Sophie Gordeladze, Anle Gou and Andjela Spaic form the ensemble of singers, accompanied by the Bach Consort Wien, conducted by Chiara Cattani from the fortepiano.
