WHAT A JOY!

The news that we had been named "Opera House of the Year 2025" was met with great enthusiasm at the MusikTheater an der Wien. Artistic director Stefan Herheim and managing director Dr. Franz Patay accepted the award in person at a glittering gala in Athens.

Since the Opera Awards were established in 2012, MusikTheater an der Wien is the first Austrian opera house to receive this internationally renowned award. The Opera Awards are among the most important prizes in the world of opera – and the title "Opera House of the Year" once again underlines the relevance of our historic institution and its artistic team, which has won over audiences with its bold and forward-looking programme.

Our partners, sponsors and friends also rejoiced. Many took advantage of this special honour to congratulate us with kind words and express their appreciation for our work.

Our supporters contribute significantly to this success, and their pride and encouragement in our path mean a great deal to us. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the loyalty and trust of our friends and sponsors. We would also like to share the congratulations we have received with you, our valued audience. Rejoice and celebrate with us!

Markus Raunig, Managing Director of Ottakringer Brewery

"As a long-standing partner of the MusikTheater an der Wien, Ottakringer Brewery is delighted about the international award for 'Opera House of the Year'. This award is the well-deserved confirmation of a courageous and ambitious path. Following its extensive renovation, the MusikTheater an der Wien now shines in new splendour, and not just in terms of its architecture. Its innovative programming breaks down genre boundaries and brings contemporary works to the stage. Every production is imbued with emotion and a love of storytelling and art in all its forms. The people who bring life and energy to the theatre are largely responsible for its success. The artistic director and management, the magnificent, perfectly coordinated team, the artists with their uncompromising standards of performance, the choirs, which not only perform at the highest level but also deliver convincing performances, and the orchestra with its versatility from classical to modern. Entertaining people and bringing them together in a cosy atmosphere is also at the heart of the Ottakringer brand. We are proud to have been a partner of the MusikTheater an der Wien for many years, enriching our home city as an international metropolis and constantly surprising us with new discoveries.
