Start of rehearsals for "La Calisto"
Today’s concept meeting marked the beginning of the rehearsal period for Francesco Cavalli’s La Calisto.
Artistic Director Stefan Herheim and the acclaimed lutenist and conductor Christina Pluhar will bring this early Baroque opera to the stage as a visually striking cosmic theatre of enchantment.
Set in a world inhabited by gods, nymphs and mythical creatures, La Calisto explores themes of love and desire, power and violence, while simultaneously questioning the moral values and gender roles of its time.
The premiere will take place on 16 September at 7 p.m. at the Theater an der Wien.
