Leave that pigeon-hole! In her multi-genre music show La femme c’est moi Elisabeth Kulman pushes the boundaries of the classical genre and demonstrates her versatility. She interprets arias from operas and works from the classical song repertoire, combining them with hits by artists ranging from the Beatles to Michael Jackson. The programme for La femme c’est moi was conceived with Tscho Theissing who is also responsible for the arrangements. Musical support comes from an ensemble of outstanding musicians from the worlds of classical music and jazz, including members of the Vienna Philharmonic. From tender love to murderous passion: Elisabeth Kulman knows every human emotion, from elation to the darkest depths. With tremendous sensitivity and a healthy dose of humour she takes the audience on a gripping roller-coaster ride through the world of emotions. In the process, she lends her voice to characters as diverse as Bizet’s Carmen, Saint-Saëns’s Delilah, Mozart's Pamina, Brecht/Weill’s Pirate Jenny and Cole Porter’s Kate. She combines seemingly incompatible elements: Franz Schubert and Michael Jackson, Richard Strauss and the Beatles, Fricka, Erda and Brünnhilde as a single person. Elisabeth Kulman studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts, making her debut as Pamina at the Volksoper in Vienna in 2001 and achieving first successes as a soprano. Since 2005 she has been singing the most celebrated roles for mezzo-soprano and alto. As a member of the Vienna State Opera she has amassed a considerable repertoire. Since 2010 she has been working freelance and has performed in the major musical centres of Vienna, Paris, London, Munich, Berlin, Tokyo, Salzburg and Moscow. She regularly works with leading orchestras and conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Kirill Petrenko, Christian Thielemann, Marek Janowski and Franz Welser-Möst. She had a particularly close working relationship with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Since 2015 Elisabeth Kulman has concentrated on song soirées, concerts and concert performances of opera works. She has a particular love of unconventional projects.
