Family opera

at the MuseumsQuartier | Halle E and the Kammeroper

For the second time we are opening our doors to "young and all" at Christmas time to delight families, school classes and all children who have grown up with the world of musical theatre. This year we are looking forward to Oliver Knussen's one-hour opera Wo die wilden Kerle wohnen, based on the best-selling children's book of the same name by Maurice Sendak. Director and puppeteer Nikolaus Habjan sensitively and aptly tells the story of the boy Max, in which reality and fantasy become blurred and many an exciting adventure must be passed. Stephan Zilias, General Music Director of the Hanover State Opera, conducts the Wiener Symphoniker

Like Wo die wilden Kerle wohnen, the children's opera Hamed und Sherifa by Zad Moultaka is also an Austrian premiere. In this humorous chamber opera, several worlds collide: "Western" and "Oriental" music, but also different views on how to behave as a "man". Viktor Mitrevski, who has been responsible for the rehearsal of the Arnold Schoenberg Chor for many years, together with the Austrian director Florian Drexler brings this project with the three young opera singers Tobias Hechler, Timothy Connor* and Johannes Bamberger* to the stage of the Kammeroper.
