Throwback family opera

Hamed und Sherifa

Our family opera Hamed und Sherifa celebrated its premiere at the Kammeroper on 8 April. The piece was received with great enthusiasm by the audience and also provided plenty of material for discussion, as all the roles were sung by three singers who interpreted the narrator, the princesses and the kings in equal measure.

A countertenor sings the role of King Hamed and a baritone slips into the role of Princess Sherifa, who courageously and full of zest for action decides to defy the king's rules and enter his country, even though he has banned all women from the land. After all, what kind of man is it who acts like this just because he has been hurt by his wife? The family opera Hamed and Sherifa wittily shakes up clichéd role models, plays with masculinity and femininity and poses the big question: "Who can I actually fall in love with?"
