Welcome to the opening weeks of the 22/23 season!
The Theater an der Wien is moving to the MuseumsQuartier. We want to celebrate our new location in the middle of this oasis of culture and invite you to an opening programme that celebrates four centuries of music history over two weeks.
We start at the Kammeroper withFrancesca Caccini's opera from 1625 La liberazione. At Resonanz, you will discover what it means when sound art enters into a liaison with the visual arts at both the mumok and the Kunsthalle Wien. Do you know what happens when the Kammeroper is occupied by a musical? At Heute Abend: Lola Blau you will find out!
Then the curtain rises for Leoš Janáček's masterpiece Das schlaue Füchslein. The first premiere in Halle E is also the directorial debut of our new artistic director Stefan Herheim at MusikTheater an der Wien.
At Tag der offenen Türen, we open the rooms of the MuseumsQuartier for you. Short concerts, workshops and musical pop-ups will provide insights into the world of music, theater and musical theater, bringing together curious people of all ages with opera aficionados, and whetting the appetite for more. Experience us and many of the participants in our opening productions up close - including the Arnold Schoenberg Chor as well as the musicians of the ORF-Radiosymphonieorchester Wien and the Wiener Symphoniker. The day will be crowned with musical fireworks: La lotta d'Ercole con Acheloo by Agostino Steffani - a divertimento drammatico with a star-studded cast and the Bach Consort Wien under the direction of Rubén Dubrovsky.

Kammeroper
Unterwegs mit ... is your opportunity to get to know a renowned artistic personality during a joint walk through the MuseumsQuartier. And between the daily changing performances of the two scenic operas, you can experience two unique musical evenings: The duo Igudesman & Joo is one of the most successful musical comedy acts in the world and invites you to their latest concert program Mambo Jambo. The Arnold Schoenberg Chor under its artistic director Erwin Ortner has been one of the strongest vocal ensembles in Europe for fifty years now. The opera choir is at home at the Theater an der Wien, and we are delighted to celebrate it with the birthday concert Zurück in die Zukunft in Halle E.
