ACCLAIMED OPENING WEEKEND

MusikTheater an der Wien at its new venue

The long-awaited premiere of Leoš Janáček's Das schlaue Füchslein opened to much applause on Saturday evening in Halle E, directed by Stefan Herheim. The main roles were played by Mélissa Petit, Milan Siljanov, Alžběta Vomáčková and Jana Kurucová. Under the direction of Giedrė Šlekytė, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra played and the Arnold Schoenberg Choir sang.

The following day, the first Tag der offenen Türen gave all curious visitors and opera lovers a look behind the scenes of the opera. With short concerts, lectures, workshops and handicrafts with the props makers, young and old could actively participate in everyday opera life.

Musically, the day ended with a third premiere of La Lotta d'Ercole con Acheloo by Agostino Steffani. The excellent cast of singers with Anna Prohaska, Xavier Sabata, Sonja Runje and Philipp Mathmann as well as the tried and tested Bach Consort Wien conducted by Rubén Dubrovsky received much applause from the audience.
