GREAT SUCCESS FOR BERNSTEIN'S "CANDIDE"

Yesterday, the MusikTheater an der Wien celebrated the premiere of Leonard Bernstein's rarely performed masterpiece Candide at the MuseumsQuartier. In Lydia Steier's production, the resilient optimist Candide embarks on a world tour - with a pinch of irreverence, a huge dose of entertainment and always with a twinkle in his eye.

The audience thanked the entire ensemble, led by Matthew Newlin (Candide), Nikola Hillebrand (Cunegonde), Vincent Glander (Narrator) and Helene Schneiderman (Old Lady), the ensemble of dancers, the Arnold Schoenberg Chor and the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien and Marin Alsop with heartfelt and long-lasting applause.

"Every objection bounces off this production. The musical realisation is excellent, the cast fabulous, the staging follows the score precisely."  - Kurier, 18.01.2024

"The production should be a hit." - Die Deutsche Bühne, 18.01.2024

"All sparks fly with this Candide."  - Die Presse, 19.01.2024

"With lots of humour, tongue-in-cheek improvisation, ultimately as a garishly colourful revue at breathless speed." - Salzburger Nachrichten, 19.01.2024

Candide can be seen until 3 February
